Retreat - Yoga Nidra

Retreat, Renew, Restore, Rebalance,
In this class we use spiritual sound heart meditations, guided group meditation to focus your mind and light up your heart.
Retreat means: A place to which one retires a place of privacy or safety, a refuge.
Our focus is on healing body mind and spirit.
It is common practice to shut down the eyes, closing off this one sense pathway equates to less distractions. This technique calms the mind and at the same time heightens ones awareness and perception. The psyche becomes more receptive and able to retain information.
We heal the body by practising yoga nidra, opening up the meridians and letting healing energy circulate freely through the body unhindered by tension. We help the body rest and relax, calm the mind by giving it a positive activity, focus the mind on relaxing the body this calms the brain releasing pranic energy, the bodies healing energy.
It is vital that we take care of spirit in order for the physical mental and emotional bodies to be in harmony, to be happy.
Just as we need food for our physical bodies to be healthy and happy we also need spiritual food in order for us the spirit spark to be healthy and happy.
Yoga mantras and meditations are our soul food. As we mentioned earlier about a refuge, safe place, this is the souls refuge from the kaos of the world, a place of peace and happiness. We rest in the sound of ancient, sacred yoga mantras.
One combination of mantras commonly used is *Om *Hari Om. Mantras can be combined with the inhale and exhale as in pranayama breathing, or singing meditations also known as *kirtan.
*Om: (Aum) became the sacred word hum of the Tibetans, amin of the Muslems and amen of the Egyptians, Greeks, Romans and Christians
*Hari: One who takes away all miserable conditions.
*Kirtan: (Congregational singing of mantras) The sound of the soul singing.
If you would like to check it out, come experience it for yourself .. have a look at our yoga meditation timetable you are welcome to join in anytime. You will love it.
Namaste

Meditation alleviates stress
Do you feel stressed? Are you getting worn down by the daily grind? For most of us, our bodies think that we're running away from a tiger all day long. The constant challenges and pressures we face daily can really affect our health.
Did you know that as little as 10 minutes, each day spent in meditation can counteract that stress and bring you many powerful benefits. This is an excellent tool recommended by physicians to their patients. It's incredibly effective, and it’s free.
Meditation helps alleviate:
1. Stress
Meditation is a wonderful way to reduce stress. Not only does the practice of meditating give you some much-needed “down time” to rest physically, mentally, and emotionally, but it also directly impacts your entire nervous system by reducing your body’s production of stress-related chemicals such as cortisol. Meditation decreases oxygen consumption, heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure, and increases the intensity of alpha, theta, and delta brain waves, which increase the relaxation response.
2. Pain
There is a significant body of research work demonstrating that meditation can reduce chronic pain. In a study published in the Journal of Behavioral Medicine, patients suffering from backache, chronic migraine and tension headaches were able to decrease their pain medication and some patients were even able stop their pain medication with a consistent meditation practice.
3. Anxiety
A 2009 study in the Journal of Clinical Psychology found that meditation decreased anxiety and increased hope in its participants. A separate study showed that cancer patients who practiced meditation for as little as seven weeks were significantly less depressed and anxious than their counterparts who did not meditate.
4. Cardiovascular disease
A study in the Archives of Internal Medicine followed patients with coronary heart disease who instituted a meditation practice for 16 weeks. Patients’ blood pressure and heart rate variability improved compared to a control group. In another study, researchers studying the effect of meditation on atherosclerosis reported that those who had practiced meditation for six to nine months had an 11% decrease in the risk of heart attack and up to a 15% decrease in the risk of stroke.
5. Insomnia
A study at the University of Minnesota showed patients with primary chronic insomnia who followed a three-month meditation program at home significantly improved their ability to fall asleep and stay asleep.

Yoga Benefits - Yoga Meditation 4221 Holistic Yoga
Benefits of Yoga
Yoga through meditation works remarkably to achieve harmony and helps the mind
work in synchronization with the body. How often do we find that we are unable to
perform our activities properly and in a satisfying manner because of the confusions
and conflicts in our mind weigh down heavily upon us?
Stress is the number one suspect affecting all parts of our physical, endocrinal and
emotional system. And with the help of yoga this things can be corrected.
At the physical level, yoga and its cleansing practices have proven to be extremely
effective for various disorders.
Listed below are just some of the benefits of yoga that you can get.
Benefits of Yoga 1: Yoga is known to increase flexibility; yoga has postures that
trigger the different joints of the body. Including those joints that are not acted upon
with regular exercise routines.
Benefits of Yoga 2: Yoga also increases the lubrication of joints, ligament and
tendons. The well-researched yoga positions exercise the different tendons and
ligaments of the body.
It has also been found that the body which may have started doing yoga being a
rigid one may experience a quite remarkable flexibility in the end on those parts of
the body which have not been consciously worked upon.

Yoga meditation - Add Meditation To Your Life (Part 1)

"Why I decided to Add Holistic Yoga Meditation to my daily life"
Everyone i know who enjoys the practice of meditation and yoga, initally became interested in it for their own individual reasons. Whether it is a change of lifestyle that a person might be after, or simply a need to relax at the end of the day, i have found this meditation practice to cover all the bases.
Before i began to add holistic yoga meditation to my daily life i was really experiencing a feeling of confusion. I wanted to know what 'it' was all about and what i was supposed to be doing. I enjoyed wandering here and there searching for something that seemed unfindable.
Whenever i returned from my travels i was always left with a feeling of "well, now what?" I was just as uncertian about things as before i left and had less money! Eventually my sniffing around and real desire to know what 'it' was all about led me to a person who gave me the opportunity to learn about the real meaning of meditation and taught me how to apply it to my life in a simple and fun way.
Why I practice holistic yoga meditation Part 2 Coming Soon

Kindness
Real meditation stokes the fire of kindness within. Wisdom contained in the Yoga scriptures fan the flames helping us to remember we are all brothers and sisters regardless of body, religion, race. As Lord Jesus said "... Love God, love others and do unto others as you would have them do unto you ... "

Yoga Pose Tadasana or Mountain Pose

I havn't posted for a few days, have been trying to sort out the spammy sites that have been using my url to try to get traffic to their nasty sites. I did think about changing my blog and starting up another one, but figure I will just wait it out and hopefully those sites will eventually disappear. To protect yourselves do not do a google search for our site, instead type the full address into the browser bar.
http://holisticyogateachertraining.blogspot.com
This is the only way you will be able to get to this blog safely.
K... lets get started. I was going to begin with the triangle pose as I did get a request for information on that particular asana. Instead I have decided to begin with Tadasana or Mountain Pose. This asana forms the stable base for all standing poses.
Tadasana / Tada = Mountain / Tadasana = Mountain Pose
Step by step instructions
2. Lift and gently stretch the toes, spread them wide and lower softly to the ground
3. Now we all know what a tripod is right! It's a 3 legged piece of equipment used for stablizing and supporting a camera. We are going to use this same principle to help us achieve a strong supportive base in mountain pose
4. Lets begin by pressing the big toes, the little toes and the heels firmly into the ground. This forms the tripod, the strong base for mountain pose
5. Alright so now we are going to gently rock back and forth—heels to toes, heels to toes
6. Come back to starting position, visualise your tripod and adjust your feet so that your weight is evenly distributed thru both feet
7. Lift the inside arches and press the outsides of the feet into the floor
8. Come back to starting position, visualise your tripod and have your weight evenly distributed thru both feet
9. Become familiar with how that feels
10. Lift the 3 arches, the inside arches, the outside arches and the arches across the broad part of your feet
11. To make sure we are not dropping thru the inside arches, activate the adductor muscles, this automatically lifts the inside arches
12. Moving up the legs to the knees, gently lift the knees by activating the thigh muscles or quads
13. Now focusing on lifting the front of the hips, gently lower the tail bone
14. An easy way to achieve the best position is to first of all place one hand on our belly just below the belly button and the other on the lower back. Visualise having tail feathers and sticking out those tail feathers – next we want to visualise a dog with it's tail between it's legs and imitate by tucking the pelvis under. The best position is somewhere in between those two extremes. Experiment and feel what's most comfortable for you
15. Next, lengthening the spine and lifting up thru the sternum. Broadening thru the lungs and rib cage. Be aware that we don't want the ribs to stick out, so draw them back towards the spine. Soften and lower the shoulders
16. Rotate thru the shoulders, moving the arms away from the body palms facing forward. Extend and lengthen the fingers. Relax the arms bring them back to your sides with the thumbs facing forward. Keep the shoulders soft. Think about the shoulder blades releasing downwards towards your waist
17. Gently lengthen the back of the neck, and lower the chin down to a neutral postition, with the chin relaxed
18. Draw up through the crown of the head, imagine a string running up thru your spine and out the top of your head, softly lengthening and opening up the body growing tall
Benefits:
Improves posture, reduces flat feet, relaxing, helps fallen arches, improves circulation, improves lung capacity
Variations:
1. Can be done with eyes closed for a more focused inward experience and to improve balance
2. Can raise the arms chest height interlock fingers and raise arms over head pressing palms towards the ceiling.
3. Bring arms behind, bend at the elbow, opposite hand on opposite elbow. Switch and hold for same amount of breaths
Variations and Modifications
1. Check your alignment against a wall. Stand with heels, sacrum and shoulder blades, but not the back of your head against the wall
Practise Mountain pose a couple times a day, this will help you to feel both grounded and relaxed.
See you next time
Lil

Holistic Yoga And Meditation - Yoga noise sleep machine
Yoga... Where Do I Start?
The best place to start is with a yoga class, where a teacher can show you how to adapt poses using props and help you learn proper technique for the postures.
The good news is that yoga classes have never been more widely available. You'll find them at small studios, health clubs and gyms. The hard part is finding a class that's just right for you. Studios that are dedicated to yoga also foster a more dedicated practice. The same students return to class week after week, and instructors usually follow a particular discipline of yoga. Some classes are aimed at beginners.

Yoga Benefits - Yoga Warm Up And Cool Down Gift
Yoga has been around for centuries originating in India. Originally including deep spiritual practises and awareness, there are some who have let go of those aspects of the yoga exercise program, but still use it because the physical asanas and techniques offer a lot of benefits. All yoga classes still include various types of meditation including chanting.
You will find that there are ways that you can use the stretches and strength building exercises to work on improving the health of the body. You will be able to burn fat, increase your flexibility, and also build muscle.
Some choose to combine yoga with other exercises, either before or after. If you are a runner or a weight lifter for instance you could use yoga as your warm up or cool down routine. You will want to
do this before you start any cardiovascular or any strength training exercises. You will find that a yoga warm up will be a very effective part of any work out.
Yoga is traditionally seen as a routine of stretches and exercises that will rejuvenate the body. That is, although yoga may be a difficult workout, it will energize you as opposed to draining your body and making you feel tired like some other exercises do. You will want to do this before you start any cardiovascular or any strength training exercises. You will find that a yoga warm up will be a very effective part of any work out.
A little Yoga anyone? Trying to make health conscious decisions this year? If so, then this is the perfect gift for her.
